I have more than one but I am going to report a funny one. When I arrived in Ireland, my first job was as a carer. I used to take care of an old lady with dementia. Everybody knows that people who suffer from dementia live in past memory. Their lives don’t follow the facts.
ResponderExcluirThis lady has a daughter called Joan who lives in America and Joan was in the house visiting for 2 weeks. She also had a late husband called John. Like I told before her memory is in the past. So, she forgets all the time her husband is dead and also she forgot we had somebody else in the house, the daughter. I have a problem with the pronunciation of John and Joan- I can’t figure out the difference. The lady, then, couldn’t remember about the daughter visiting and we were downstairs and the daughter was upstairs moving around in her room. Maureen asked me- who is upstairs and I replied- Its John( I meant to say Joan) she went up to the stairs like a bullet to meet her husband and when she opened the door she saw Joan. And she asked- Where is your dad? Joan explained her that John had died and all. I was in the kitchen and in the next minute Maureen comes in infuriated complaining I told her John was upstairs and he wasn’t. Then she tried to teach me the difference between Joan and John. Don’t think it worked but she tried.
Finally Joan went back to America and she got either used or more confused with my problem in saying John and Joan.
